What is the difference between a Doll Face Persian and a Extreme Face Persian? TOP
Doll face persians are considered the original and traditional faced persian. This was the original look sought after, but in more recent years, most show breeders have strived for a more exaggerated, and extreme look. The main difference between the two looks is in the nose : The doll faced persian has a nose, and a extreme face persian generally has a very distinct break in the nose, which looks as if it has tried to walk through a glass door and gotten it's nose smooshed into its face! Another difference is that the extreme faced persians often have eyes that seem to "bulge" out. We have found that the health problems associated with the more extreme face look far out weigh any gains made by striving for this look. There are often more complications with birthing extreme faced persians,  and with deformed kittens with the extreme look. Even if the extreme faced kitten turns out to be a "healthy" kitten, they will always have issues with breathing and/or eye drainage. Although it is common for all persians to have eyes that tear up from time to time, we have found this does not occur as much with the more traditional face look, and I have never known one with a breathing issue. Also, many extreme faced cats of today are being breed for heads that are not in proportion to their body. This can be dangerous for female cats giving birth, and is just one more reason we do not strive for the extreme face look. We do however strive for a nice round face, and one that is not too small. We also strive for noses tiny "ski jump" noses, which is a healthy look on a persian, and is still distinct from other breeds of cats that have much longer noses. The areas in which we totally agree with those who breed for the current show/extreme look is in coat density, color and quality, ears that are not too long, and exceptional eye color. By incoorperating the doll face look of past years with the current goals of breeding for exceptional coat quality, and eye color, we feel this offers the cat a beautiful, distinct, and balanced look.

What should I feed my Persian or Himalayan? Will any cat food do? TOP

Persians and Himalayans really do need to be feed a diet that is not just the grocery store or generic brand of cat food. This is because they really do need and use extra nutrients to grow and maintain that beautiful coat. We have found many of the top brands to do overall good (Such as most of the organic lines of cat food, Science Diet, Eukanuba, and Royal Canin).
We are currently feeding our cats Royal Canin Persian formula as this really does a good job with maintaining the coat. Cats and Kittens under a year of age receive a kitten formula.

I really would not recommend using anything below the quality of the above mentioned brands, as the ingredients do get cheaper and cheaper. If corn or something not protein rich is the first ingredient (or if it is a meat by product ~ for example chicken by product instead of just saying chicken), I would not recommend it.

We are currently learning more about what cat diets are the best (learning more about making our own cat food, or doing a raw or supplimented diet for our cats), so as we learn more we will share more here! In the meantime, picking a dry cat food with meat as its first ingredient is a great place to start.
